In this talk, we'll dive into the relations between an individual and the community.
A regular person, in this day and age, might feel like they can't do anything to improve the world. Being a part of a community gives us a chance to make a small difference.
The good thing about IT is that we have a lot of different professional communities to take part in. Sense of belonging is very important for humans, and sometimes giving a bit of encouragement to others can mean a lot. Having a casual chat, over free drinks and pizza, can be a nice reset from daily technical challenges, and sharing your knowledge can pique someone's interest and broaden someone's perspective.
The conference isn't lacking tech topics, so I figured something more human-centered might be a nice refreshment.
I will talk about the benefits that the individual has from being involved in the community and how individual dedication can help the community grow.
We will go over what community involvement in IT can look like and how community engagement can change and motivate you.
Also, we will touch on the topic of getting involved in meetups and conferences and why we should consider doing so. The first step is attending, maybe volunteering, organizing, and speaking.
To wrap it up, I will explain how IT community events can help an initially shy asocial individual (like myself) to get more comfortable interacting with people and realize that doing initially unpleasant things can help us in the long run, and we might even end up enjoying something we disliked before.
